“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). This passage is a great summary of our beliefs. At Hope Lutheran Church we believe, teach, and confess that salvation is ours by God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ as he is revealed in the Bible.

We also believe, teach, and confess that:
  • There is one triune God who has revealed himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • God created mankind and all that exists (Genesis 1).
  • All people are born with sin, sin throughout their lives, and are deserving of nothing but punishment from God (Romans 3:23).
  • There is nothing that sinful humans can do on their own to earn God’s grace or salvation (Romans 3:20).
  • God sent his own Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to save all people from sin. He lived a perfect life in our place and suffered the punishment for the sins of the whole world (John 3:16; Galatians 4:4–5).
  • God raised Jesus from the dead, guaranteeing that in Christ we too will be raised to life and live after death (Romans 4:25).
  • God forgives our sins and saves us when he gives us faith in Jesus’ death and resurrection (Ephesians 2:8–9).
  • Faith comes from hearing the message of Christ and from the Sacraments, Baptism and Holy Communion (Romans 10:17; Titus 3:5; Matthew 26:26, 28).
  • God gives us his Spirit so that we can lead lives of faithful service to God and our neighbor (Galatians 5:22–23).
  • When a Christian dies, they will live forever in peace with God (Matthew 25:34).
  • At the end of the world Jesus will come back to judge the living and the dead (Matthew 25:41).
